June deals: How, where to get free food – donuts, burritos and tacos – and other discounts

June brings the summer heat and some good deal days.

The sweetest is June 7 for National Doughnut Day, which is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.


There are some deals to help with the heat including National Iced Tea Day (June 10) and then the official first day of summer (June 21), which also is National Smoothie Day.

Here are some of the big days for free food and discounts along with ongoing specials, available at participating locations. To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant’s app or be signed up for emails.

Through June 9: Win Chipotle burritos

Watching the NBA Finals could earn you a free burrito.

Chipotle is giving away up to $1 million worth of free burritos during the 2019 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors. The promotion, which also includes free delivery, starts  starting Thursday, May 30.

The Mexican fast-casual chain announced it will be live tweeting a unique code good for the chance to win a free burrito every time an on-air announcer says the word “free” during the official coverage of the series.

Up to 500 free burritos will be given in the first half of each game based on the mentions of “free.” In the second half, up to 1,000 free burritos will be given away. To enter, text the correct code to 888222.

The promotion is limited to the first 20 on-air mentions of “free” during each game, according to the terms and conditions.

The free burrito codes will be valid for any regularly-priced entree through July 14.

Chipotle also will be offering free delivery Thursday, May 30 through June 9 with a minimum $10 order on the Chipotle app, or through DoorDash. If the series continues, the free delivery may also be extended.

June 6: McDonald’s deal

To mark the launch of its Worldwide Favorites Menu, McDonald’s restaurants will accept foreign currency from customers on Thursday from 2-5 p.m. local time.

The deal is good only for the four items on the new menu at participating restaurants and is limited to one piece of foreign cash per customer.

June 6: Starbucks Happy Hour

From 3 p.m. to closing Thursday, the coffee giant is having one of its frequent Happy Hour events where Starbucks Rewards members. This week’s deal is a $3 grande Frappuccino blended beverage.

The offer has been loaded onto Starbucks Rewards members accounts and is available at participating U.S. locations.

Non-members can sign up for offers by creating an account at You can either add a Starbucks gift card to the account or choose an instant digital card when setting up the account.

This week’s offer excludes brewed coffee, ready-to-drink beverages and Starbucks Reserve beverages.

June 7: National Doughnut Day

Friday, June 7 is a sweet day. It’s National Doughnut Day, also known as National Donut Day. Here are the confirmed deals:

Bashas’ Supermarkets: Buy 12 doughnuts and get six doughnuts free Friday. The mobile app has a rebate offer at Target and Walmart on Friday. With the app, you can earn up to $3 cash back on doughnut purchases at Target, Walmart and other grocery chains like Kroger, Ralphs, Owen’s, City Market and more. Clip the coupon in the app, then scan the receipt after you check out and the money will be deposited into your PayPal account. Download the app at

Cumberland Farms: From 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, get a free doughnut with purchase of any dispensed beverage, which includes hot or iced coffee, fountain or frozen beverages. This deal is only valid at new concept or remodeled locations.

Duck Donuts: Get one free bare, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar doughnut Friday, no purchase necessary. In-store only.
